I really meant to be better about those check-in posts. I did! Once a week, I thought. Or once every two weeks. And then RL got crazy...

But hey -- this makes me wonder how often people would like to see check-in posts. I tend to think check-in posts are handy for keeping people motivated and working; it helps me to know that I'll be able to say "I have X words toward my goal!" at the end of the week. Thus: a poll!

(If you answered "never", you may be best off unsubscribing to the comm. You can still be a part of the challenge; you don't have to be a subscriber to participate!)

Anyway, all that taken care of, now it is February 1st. How are you guys doing with your goals?

(This post may eventually become a FAQ, if there turn out to be lots of questions...)

Welcome to [community profile] 12in2010, an idea shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] 12in2008. (Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] 12in2008, and also, 2008 in general -- we wouldn't be here without you!)

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to set a goal, and write 12 stories that fulfill that goal over the course of the year. The thought, of course, is to do one a month -- but you can do several in one month and none in several months, if that's how your muses like to play it.

To set your goal, post a comment in response to this post right here, the one you're reading. To back out of a goal, either reply to your comment or delete your comment -- no harm, no foul (no deposit, no return). (But don't PM or email the mod(s) about this, because we are not your goalkeepers -- you are!)

Your goal can be anything you want. You can make it about word count (anything from a drabble to a novel -- if you think you can do 12 of them in 2010, go for it!), or about genre (12 angst stories, 12 hurt/comfort stories, 12 humor stories?), or about characters (12 stories centering around characters of color, 12 stories centering around transgendered characters, 12 stories centering around women). You can write about events (12 stories about weddings!), or specific events (12 stories about a particular wedding!), or current events (12 stories about marriage equality!), or world events.

If you can think of the goal, it can be your goal. You want to write 12 crossovers that prominently feature characters of color going snowboarding? GO FOR IT (please!). It's up to you!

More information is available in the profile, but we also invite you to ask questions in the question post!

Signups are open until 12/31/2010! If you find us late in the year, no problem -- just go ahead and sign up, and see what you can do!
